An autosomal recessive trait can be inherited equally by either of the sexes. For a recessive trait to be seen, two copies of a particular gene has to be expressed. Carriers have only a single copy of the gene. They do not express the when a child inherits one copy from each carrier parent, they are termed as affected. Carrier parents have a 1-in-4 chance (or 25%) with each pregnancy, to have a child with SCID.[8]
